13. Stop the flywheel at that point and add the number of revolutions the needle made to the fraction showing on the dial gauge. For example, if the needle passed zero three times and stopped at 15, the ignition timing is 3.15mm before top dead center.
14. The correct timing for 1971-1972 Ossas are listed in Figure 47.
15. If the timing is not within these tolerances, remove the flywheel and loosen the stator mounting screws.
16. If the timing figure is less than the chart recommendation, rotate the stator counterclockwise a small amount.
17. If the timing figure was more than the recommendation, rotate the stator clockwise a small amount.
18. Tighten the mounting screws and install the flywheel. Check the timing again. Repeat the procedure until the timing is within the tolerances.
19. Remove the dial indicator, plunger, and adapter.
20. Install the lock washer on the crankshaft and put Loc-Tite on the flywheel nut threads. Turn the nut down finger tight.
21. Hold the flywheel with the holding tool and torque the flywheel nut to 60 ft.-lb. (see Figure 48).
22. Check the timing once more to be sure it is correct after the nut
is tight.
