ENGINE REASSEMBLY 65

4. Install the rubber grommet on the magneto wires into the slot in the bottom of the case.  Install the magneto wire clip on the lower right side of the right engine case.  Use Loc-Tite on the clip bolt.

5. Align the magneto flywheel slot with the woodruff key in the crankshaft.  Install the flywheel on the crankshaft without the nut.

6. Insert the timing pin, part number 114-083, in the flywheel hole at the 5 o'clock position (see Figure 44).  Move the flywheel back and forth until the pin is inserted into the matching hole in the stator.  This is the position where the spark plug will fire.

7. Obtain a timing dial gauge kit (see Figure 45).  Remove the spark plug and screw the adapter into the spark plug hole.  Drop the plunger down through the adapter and install the dial indicator in the adapter.

8. Push the dial indicator down until the needle has completed one full revolution.  Tighten the lock screw on the adapter to lock the indicator in place.

9. Rotate the dial face so the needle reads zero (see Figure 46).

10. Remove the timing pin from the flywheel and rock the flywheel back and forth lightly.  If the needle does not move every time the flywheel does, the dial gauge plunger is too short and must be replaced.

11. When the plunger is long enough, reinstall the timing pin in the flywheel and stator.  Be sure the dial needle is at zero.

12. Remove the timing pin and turn the flywheel clockwise, counting the number of complete revolutions the needle makes before it stops moving.  Where it stops moving is top dead center.
