FRONT SUSPENSION AND STEERING 110

14. Install the brake anchor strap on the fork lug.  The flat washers go under the bolt beads and the lock washers under the nuts.  Put Loc-Tite on the nut threads and torque to 6 ft.-lb.

15. Install the axle pinch bolts with the heads facing forward.  A flat washer goes under the bolt head and a flat washer and lock washer under the nut on each.  Tighten finger tight.

16. On Plonker models, install the speedometer cable to the hub drive unit.

17. Put both wheels on the floor.  Straddle the front wheel with your knees and twist the fork tubes until the wheel center line is perpendicular to the triple clamps.  Tighten each triple clamp pinch bolt to 10 ft.-lb.

18. Tighten the steering shaft pinch bolt on the top triple clamp to 15 ft.-lb. (see Figure 32).

19. Torque the top yoke nut to 35 ft.-lb.

20. Hold the axle T bar and torque the axle nut to 60 ft.-lb., except for Plonker models, which require 50 ft.-lb.

21. Tighten the left axle pinch bolt on all models except the Plonker to 15 ft.-lb.. Tighten the Plonker's right pinch bolt to the same torque.

22. With the other pinch bolt still loose, pump the forks up and down several times to align the fork legs on the axle.  Torque the other axle pinch bolt to 15 ft.-lb.

23. Tighten the headlight mounting brackets on Pioneer and Plonker models.  Install the front number plate on the Stiletto.

24. Move the forks back and forth.  If the steering is tight, loosen the steering head bearings as detailed above.
