8. Install the three hollow guide pins in the right case.

9. Install the right hand crankshaft shims on the right main bearing and smear grease on them to hold them in place.

10. Install the left engine case with the crankshaft assembly on the right case (see Figure 18).  Guide the right end of the crankshaft into the right main bearing and the left end of the kick­starter shaft into the left case.

11. Tap the two cases together with a soft mallet.

12. Install the front engine case bolt with Loc­Tite on the threads and a thick flat washer under the bolt head.  A thin spring washer fits under the nut.  Turn the nut only finger tight.

13. Install the 11 engine case screws in the magneto side (see Figure 19).  Turn them until snug, but not tight.

14. Follow the sequence shown by the numbers in Figure 19 to tighten each screw firmly.  Torque the front engine case nut to 12 ft.-lb.

15. Install the shift drum detent assembly and turn it in with your fingers.  Tighten with a screwdriver only after turning it in with your fingers.

16. Install the felt washer and rubber cap on the right end of the transmission selector shaft.
 

Primary Side Components Installation

1. Turn the engine with the primary side facing up. Turn the kick starter shaft counterclockwise as far as it will go, until the long slot on the shaft is f acing upward.
