ENGINE REASSEMBLY

7. Heat the right engine case in an oven to 250-300 degrees F. If you use a torch instead, be sure to keep the flame moving evenly over the case.  Do not overheat the case or it may warp.

8. Put the heated case with the inside facing up and insert the bearing with the fingers (see Figure 4).  Push it all the way down until it seats against the boss.

9. Be sure not to drive or press any bearings into place.  If any bearing will not seat in its mounting boss, gently tap it out and cool it while reheating the case.  Then insert it again.

10. Install the lay shaft bronze bushing the same way.  Heat the case and push the bushing into the case until it bottoms.

11. After the bearings and bushings are installed, let the case sit for 10 minutes while the parts achieve the same temperature and bond securely.

12. Turn the case over while still warm and install the new oil seals.  Use a piece of wood and a hammer to drive the seal home (see Figure 5).  Install the seals with the outer face either flush with the case or no more than 1/16" below it.

13. Heat the left engine case to the same temperature detailed above.

14. Lay the case on the bench with the inside facing down and install the crankshaft oil seal in the same manner.

15. Turn the case over with the inside facing up and install the transmission main shaft bearing and lay shaft bushing.  Be sure they seat squarely on their bosses.

16. Set the warm case vertically with the studs pointing upward.
