8. When the transmission is in any gear, a spring loaded plunger fits
into one of these detent holes, holding the drum in position so it cannot
be jarred out of gear by vibration or other forces. The large detent
holes are for the five gears, and the small one is for neutral.
9. The detent assembly contains the plunger, a spring, a large headed
hollow screw, and a nylon washer (see Figure 8). This assembly fits
into the threaded hole on the lower right rear side of the right engine
case.
10. The shifting drum has four round pegs on its left end (see Figure
6) called selector pins. They axe involved in turning the drum.
