FRONT SUSPENSION AND STEERING 108

16. Coat the fork leg oil seals and fork tubes with oil and install the tube into the fork leg until it bottoms.

17. Insert the special bolt into the oil drain hole in the fork leg to hold the pedestal, as detailed above.

18. Install the lock washer and flat washer on the Allen bolt and install it into the fork leg from the bottom (see Figure 28).  Tighten securely.

Front Suspension Assembly

1. Oil the inside of the rubber dust covers and install them over the tops of the fork legs.

2. On Pioneer and Stiletto models, the left fork leg has a mounting lug for the brake anchor strap.  The lug faces forward.

3. On Plonker models, both fork legs have two fender mounting lugs.  The axle mounting boss is machined flat on one side (see Figure 29).  This side fits inside toward the hub, with the drain screws facing the rear.

4. Install the fork tube up through the triple clamps from the bottom.

5. On Pioneer and Plonker models, install the tube through the headlight mounting bracket between the triple clamps (see Figure 30).

6. The top of the tube, not the cap nut, must be flush with the top of the upper triple clamp.

7. Turn one of the top triple clamp pinch bolts until snug, but not tight.

8. Install the other fork tube the same way.

9. On Plonker models, install the fender on the four mounting lugs on the fork legs.  The rear lug on the left leg holds the speedometer and bracket.  Torque the nuts to 10 ft.-lb.
