31. Turn the shift drum counterclockwise as far as it will go (see Figure 41).  This is the first gear position.  Be sure the engaging dogs in every gear position are engaged for at least 75% of their length.

32. Rotate the main shaft and turn the shift drum clockwise until second gear position is reached.  Check the engaging dogs for 75% engagement.

33. Repeat theprocess for third and fourth gear.  Because of the spacer on the main shaft which will be removed later, you cannot engage fifth gear properly at this time.
