5. Install the aluminum valve disc washer next. Then
install the damper cylinder on the shaft so the aluminum washer will fit
into the recessed end of the cylinder.
6. Remove the rubber washer from inside the damper pedestal. Install a new one, part number OLI-8115-1 1, and set the pedestal upright on a flat surface. 7. Heat the pedestal to 150-200 degrees F. (see Figure 24) with a torch. 8. Install the bottom end of the damper shaft into the pedestal. Push it all the way down until it is fully seated. 9. Hold the downward pressure until the pedestal cools, until it's tight on the damper shaft. 10. Clean the fork tube and install the damper assembly into it from the bottom. Install a new snap ring with the square edge facing the bottom of the fork tube. Install this ring very carefully, |
as it holds the front wheel on the motorcycle when the wheel
is off the ground.
11. Clean the fork legs with solvent and blow them dry. Grease the new oil seal and install it in the fork leg with the open side facing the bottom of the fork leg. 12. Gently tap the seal with a socket drift (see Figure 25) until it seats in its mounting boss. 13. Install a seal in each fork leg, and then install a new snap ring in each leg with the square edge facing upward (see Figure 26). 14. Check the O-ring on the fork cap nuts for wear or damage. Replace if in doubt. Install the fork spring in the fork tube and screw in the cap nut by hand. 15. Install a new Oring in the groove in the bottom of the damper pedestal (see Figure 27). Dab it with grease to hold it in place. |
