14. Remove the damper assembly from the fork tube and remove the bolt from the damper shaft.  Remove the components from the shaft.  Remove the snap ring from the damper piston and remove the piston from the shaft.

Steering Reassembly

1. Clean the frame steering head carefully.  Check the steering bearings for wear or damage.  If in doubt, replace them.

2. Install the outer races in the steering head with a soft mallet and punch (see Figure 18).  Be sure you drive them in straight.

3. Install a new dust shield over the steering shaft.  Coat the felt washer with grease and install it on the dust cover.

4. Pack the bearing rollers with grease.  Install the bearing on the shaft and tap with a pipe fitted on the inner race (see Figure 19) until the bearing is seated on the yoke.

5. Clean the upper dust shield and felt washer and coat the washer with grease.

6. Pack the upper bearing with grease and install it on the shaft.

7. Install the steering shaft into the steering head from the bottom.
