This is a Cheney Ossa made by Eric Cheney, Cheney Racing UK. The frames were comissioned by Cliff Holden, the UK importer in 1974/5. They made 10 frames from Reynolds 531 tube, and a further 30 were made using standard, modified steel Ossa frames, for sale to the general public.
The Cheney 531 cantilever frames were used by the all UK contracted riders of that era which included; Geoff Chandler, Geoff Guy (works development rider), John Reynolds, Dave Thorpe, Mick Wilkinson, Jack Matthews (sidecar) and Roy Armstrong (passenger).
Riding these cantilever framed machines the Ossa UK riders won the British Experts solo, Southern Experts solo, Northern Experts solo, and Allan Jefferies trials as well as the British Sidecar Championship. Perhaps the most prestigious result achieved with the Cheney Ossa was John Reynolds second place in the Irish round of the 1975 World Trials Championship, which he narrowly lost having tied on points with Montesa mounted Malcolm Rathmell.
